My CPA filed an extension for doing my business income tax return for 2005 and now for 2006. She keeps saying she will get to it, but doesn’t. I am getting an ulcer over it. How can I make her do my taxes? She is impossible to get hold of. Her office manager relays all messages. The CPA is in poor health. What will I do if she can no longer do her job? What can I do to force her to do my back taxes! She has all the paperwork.

Send a certified letter with return receipt requested and ask that they return your documents to you immediately, and then go to another, healthier accountant.

Go to the CPA’s office, pick up your paperwork and find another tax preparer.

Get your documentation back from your ailing CPA. If she does not respond by returning your paperwork quickly or she drags her feet then hire a lawyer (one that specializes in tax issues) to send a threatening letter (cost $100 – $200). Make sure you keep copies of all of your attempts to get your taxes done and/or paperwork back. You might be able to sue for penalties, interest and legal fees, if you are hurt by the delay on having your taxes filed.

Run, don’t walk into a new CPA’s office. Despite how non responsive your CPA is, you are ultimately responsible for your filing of taxes.

I would go ask for all my paperwork back and go to another CPA. Since she can’t seem to get it done. Its not professional to delay taxes that long just because she’s in poor health. If it was that poor she needs to say she can’t do it.

I would walk in the office and ask for my files back because I wanted to take them to another accountant to get my taxes done. If this does not set them to work, go to another accountant.

FIRST ANSWER WAS QUITE SMART….SEND A CERTIFIED LETTER WITH A RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTING THE RETURN OF YOUR PAPERWORK.
THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND YOU SOUND LIKE A SMART PERSON.GET YOUR PAPERWORK AND GET OUT OF THERE!

If you ask for your paperwork, she has to return it. Find yourself another CPA.
